Caring for a cat? The FelineVMA’s quality of life and end-of-life guide walks through the questions vets use (pain, appetite, drinking, grooming, happiness, mobility, and whether there are more good days than bad), with a free printable good-day/bad-day calendar to bring to appointments. Their hospice and palliative care guide (PDF) explains comfort care at home.
Make One Call Count
- Give your city or ZIP code, pet’s species and approximate weight. Ask whether they can serve your exact address.
- Ask which services they offer and the earliest appointment they can actually confirm.
- Request the total cost, including travel, after-hours fees and the aftercare option you want. Ask when payment is due.
- Ask what happens if your pet needs help before the appointment and whom to call.
If cost is a barrier, see ways to pay for care. Programs may exclude euthanasia or cremation, so confirm that before applying.
In the Los Angeles and Orange County area, the Honor Fund can help toward the difference between communal and individual cremation, so families can receive their pet’s ashes when money is tight. Confirm current availability directly.
